Cupid Minion Valentine Treat Bag

I did a blog hop about a week ago that was put on by Svg Cutting Files and Jaded Blossom Stamps.  They usually have a monthly blog hop and share some really cute files along the way.  This minion was one of the files from their hop and I did a blatant copy of the project posted by Sara.  I thought her treat bag was so cute.  I bought some limited edition Twinkies made especially for Valentine’s Day — they are coated in chocolate and have cherry filling.

All supplies were from my stash — I’ve had the Valentine paper for some time.

2

The hearts were cut using Spellbinders dies and the topper is one of their label dies that I folded in half.  The stamped sentiment is from Jaded Blossom and it is on a tag from their Mini Tag 2 die.  I added the Twinkie and some Hershey kisses inside the gusset bag, also from Jaded Blossom.

Paper Mache Quilt Shop

This is the quilt shop I made for a swap I participated in way back in August of 2014.  I altered a paper mache house from Hobby Lobby.  The porch and window I added in the front was made using a tutorial from Laura Denison Designs — I altered one of her Maple Street Shoppes (the Tea Shoppe) to fit my little house.

All the paper I used to cover it is from Graphic 45’s Secret Garden collection.  I used several doll house miniatures to add realism and I even added a little needle-felted robin on the roof.  I found the robin on etsy and he came all the way from Russia.

Front3

The sign is computer generated and mounted on a Spellbinders Label shape, but I don’t recall which one I used.  I named my shop Quilty Pleasures.  You can see some of the miniatures I used — the cat and package by the front door and the iron in the window. There is also a miniature quilt book in the window that I found on etsy — it even opens. In the next photo you can see the book a little better.  I made the bolts of fabric using fabric from my stash.

I used two different Martha Stewart border punches for trim on the shop.

WindowCUI handmade the rug that is on the front porch – a tedious and time consuming undertaking.  I used strands of embroidery floss that I braided together.  Once I had a long strand I started forming it into the shape of the rug.  I cut an oval from cardstock and glued on the back of the rug.

Rug

The next three pictures will be of the windows on the sides and the back of the shop.  I printed some cute bear quilting clipart I found on the internet and put them behind windows that I cut out with my Zing using a svg file.

The roof is made from a piece of fabric that I printed a quilt design on using my Brother garment printer.

The roof lifts off and I covered the inside of the house with paper – a mini album fits inside.

This was such a fun project and I love how the Secret Garden collection looks on the quilt shop.  I ended up making two mini albums, which I will post separately.

Quilt Card With Graphic 45 Secret Garden

I am so late in adding this project to our blog.  Way back in August of 2014, I participated in a paper mache house swap on the Cricut Circle Message Board. I altered a paper mache house from Hobby Lobby, making it into a quilt shop. This is the card I made to go with my project.  The printed paper is all from Graphic 45’s Secret Garden collection and I used the hexagon cover plate die from Papertrey Ink to cut the quilt pattern. Card The sentiment was computer generated and the scalloped rectangle is a Spellbinders die.  I tied some baker’s twine towards the bottom.

Birthday Tag — NSD 2014 Challenges

Since time is running out to enter the challenges on the Cricut Circle Message Board, I made this tag to enter into two different categories.  Actually, I think it qualifies for three.  The first is the XO Three in a Row, the second one is Everything’s Coming Up Rosettes, and the third is All Mixed Up.

For Maria’s XO Three in a Row challenge, you have to pick three items from a Tic Tac Toe board and incorporate them into your project. I chose the bottom row, which is Flower, Ribbon (or Twine), and Stamp.

For Colleen’s Everything’s Coming Up Rosettes, you have to make a project and use a rosette on it.

For Di’s All Mixed Up challenge, you need to use a piece of fabric on your project.

3

I covered the tag with sticky back canvas and then inked it using Peacock Feathers Distress Ink.  I stamped the images on the canvas using the same ink.

I used this tutorial from Tammy Tutterow for my tag, because I wanted to make the flower out of crinoline and she has step-by-step instructions.  I used a Tim Holtz rosette die to cut the crinoline and then sprayed them with Lindy’s Stamp Gang’s Starburst Sprays to get the beautiful colors.   The leaves are from a Spellbinders die, also cut from crinoline.  I stamped a butterfly on vellum and added it to the flower.

2

All that was left was the sentiment and bow, which I made using my Bow-it-All.

  • Ranger Sticky Back Canvas
  • Tim Holtz rosette die
  • Crinoline (from Jo-Ann’s)
  • Distress Ink
  • Lindy’s Stamp Gang Starburst Spray

Valentine Mini Album and Card

I’m finally getting around to posting pictures of the Valentine mini album and card I made for a swap I participated in on the Cricut Circle Message Board.  The card features an embroidery design I purchased from Embroidery Library that is made for cardstock.  The scalloped frame was cut with my Cricut using the Elegant Edges cartridge.

Card

I found a mini album on Graphic 45’s blog that I really liked.  It is made by Gloria Stengel and she calls it a flip album.  And lucky for me, there is a tutorial on how to make it.  I loved the papers she used, and since I had many of them on hand, my album is almost exactly like hers.  I had to change a few of the dimensions on the album because mine was turning out to be a bit too chunky.

Front

All the patterned papers are from Graphic 45, most from the Place in Time collection.  The pretty red print on the cover is from the Bird Song collection.  I love how you can combine their collections and they coordinate so well.

The roses were light pink and I sprayed them with Starburst spray from Lindy’s Stamp Gang to get the colors I wanted.  The shimmer shows up pretty well in the pictures.

The album has an organza ribbon closure.

2

The dark red lace doily was cut from a Spellbinders heart die.

3

Here are two pictures that show an overview of the album.  It is an interesting album, with all its interactive pages.

This is with the first page flipped out.  The wings are from a Cuttlebug Embossing Plus die called Vintage Collage.  The heart borders are from Martha Stewart punches.  The scalloped frame under the wings is from a Spellbinders die.

7

This is after you flip open the page with the wings.  Another scalloped frame from Spellbinders, the heart is from a Martha Stewart die and the key is from Graphic 45.  I think the “love” is also a Martha Stewart punch.

Christmas Mini Album for Cricut Circle Stocking Stuffer Swap

I participated in the Cricut Circle Stocking Stuffer Swap for the first time in 2013.  I figure it’s about time I posted the mini album I made to send to my partner, Sherry (Octoberbeauty).  I’ll warn you — there are lots of pictures.

This is the second mini album I’ve made and I again used a tutorial from Cathy, whose etsy shop is called So Much Scrap.   For this album I used her All Hallow’s Eve tutorial.  I really like her tutorials because they are very detailed and easy to follow.

I did something a little different on this album than what the directions call for.  I made the spine and binding system using only chipboard and book binding cloth — I didn’t use any cardstock in the construction.  I am happy with the way it turned out — the binding system is very flexible.

The patterned paper I used throughout the album is from My Mind’s Eye Merry & Bright collection.  The solid cardstock is all Basis 80#.  The edges of the chipboard are painted with Martha Stewart pearl paint.  I covered the outside of the spine in wool felt and added some ribbon, lace and metallic rick rack trim to the edges.

Back2

I made the charm on the spine using stardust jingle bells, crystal snowflake beads and a deer pendant I got from eBay. I made the bow using my Zutter Bow-It-All.  I’m really liking the bows I can make using this handy tool.

Here are some close-up details of the album front.  The poinsettia is made from the Layered Poinsettia die by Spellbinders, sprayed with Lindy’s Stamp Gang’s Starburst spray, and I added glass seed beads to the center.  The snowflake is from the Tim Holtz Snowflake Rosette die and is coated in coarse glitter.  The album closure is a ribbon that wraps around a brad on the front cover — another of Cathy’s wonderful ideas.

CHA Winter 2014 Conference & Trade Show, Day One

Erin and I attended the opening day of the CHA Conference & Trade Show held in Anaheim, CA.  We arrived about an hour after it opened — we were a little late because Erin had to drive up from San Diego.  We stayed until about an hour before it closed and managed to walk a little over 1/3 of the show.  We will be back tomorrow when it opens.

Erin took a lot of pictures and I am sharing quite a few.  I would post more but I am just too tired and I need to get to bed so we can get up and do it all over again tomorrow.  We plan on going all four days.  So, here are some of the highlights from today.

Cricut Circle Stocking Stuffer Swap Box

For several years I have wanted to participate in the Stocking Stuffer Swap on the Cricut Circle Message Board.  Since this time of the year is usually the busiest for my embroidery business, I have never signed up.  This year I decided I was going to give it a shot and I’m so glad I did.  I had a wonderful time shopping and making gifts for my secret partner.  I will post those later.  Right now I want to show you what my wonderful partner sent me.

My partner for this swap was IrishDancer (her message board name).  It was a secret swap, so I didn’t find out her identity until it was time to open the boxes.  She was so very generous and I love everything she sent.

She sent me all kinds of goodies from Crate Paper’s All Bundled Up collection and from October Afternoon’s Silent Night collection.

1

I love the flag/pennant paper punch.  I got some Memento ink in a pretty pink and blue, a glue pen, some Tim Holtz Distress Glitter in pink and blue (so pretty) and a box of Hero Arts tags.

3

You could send your partner a stocking or a Santa hat.  IrishDancer sent me a Santa hat that is so sparkly and pretty.  I received a Spellbinders snowflake die, a banner paper pad, a mini notebook that is covered in beautiful fabric, a candy cane pen, some yummy Ghiradelli dark chocolate, and a Jo-Ann’s gift card.  Thank you so much, IrishDancer. You really spoiled me!

My First Mini Album

Yesterday I posted the mini album I received in a swap.  Today I want to share the mini album I made for my swap partner.  I took a ton of pictures — I think because after spending so much time making the album, it was hard for me to part with it.  I felt like it was part of the family 🙂

I made several wonderful discoveries along the way while making the album.  First and foremost, I discovered some wonderful mini album tutorials on Etsy.  You can find them in Cathy’s shop, which is called SoMuchScrap.

I have been researching minis on the internet for a long time and knew I wanted to make something with interactive pages.  After finding Cathy’s tutorials, I knew this was the way to go for me.    I purchased her binding tutorial and her Je’ T’ Adore tutorial for a 6″ x 6″ mini.  All I did was change the papers to a fall theme.  The tutorials are excellently written and have step-by-step instructions as well as pictures to guide you through each page.  Another plus about purchasing from Cathy is that she readily answers any questions you might have.  So, with big thanks to Cathy, here is my mini.

Thumb

I used paper from BoBunny’s Forever Fall collection.  The solid cardstock is all from papertemptress.com.  The brown trim and ribbon are from Joann’s.  Another discovery I made was book cloth — I used imitation suede book cloth to cover the spine of the album and a glue specifically designed for bookbinding.  I was amazed at how easy it was to apply the cloth.  I picked up these supplies at Hollander’s.

Front2

The title is from two Spellbinders dies, Labels 4 and Grommet Tags.  I embossed the bottom layer with the Distressed Striped Cuttlebug embossing folder.  I added highlights with a copper ink pad and sponge.  The “Autumn Splendor” is from a Close to My Heart stamp set with the same name, heat embossed with Lindy’s Stamp Gang’s embossing powder.

That is another of my discoveries — Lindy’s Stamp Gang‘s products.  I bought their Autumn Leaves Mega Set and I can’t say enough good things about it.  I love their sprays and embossing powders — they are gorgeous.  Look at the heat embossing close up — their powder not only embosses but also adds a shimmer, which you will see in the second picture.

Title

The dragonfly is from a Martha Stewart punch and I sprayed him with Lindy’s Starburst Spray and dried him with a heat gun.  I added a chocolate pearl to each side of the tag.

TitleEmboss

The rhinestone embellishment is from Michaels, from their Recollections brand.  I made the three flowers on the front, using Spellbinders Jewel Flowers and Flourishes for the sunflower.  The two smaller flowers are cut with my Cricut using the Flower Shoppe cartridge.  I added Stickles to the centers of the small flowers and Flower Soft to the center of the sunflower.

Flowers

Flowers2

On the spine I hung a charm on a Tim Holtz ring fastener that I made with supplies I picked up at Joann’s. This was my first time making a charm — and I love the way it turned out.

Spine

The pendant is glass and it reminded me of a leaf shape — so I figured it would go well with the album.

Charm

OK, let’s look inside the album.  Here are pages 1 and 2.

1-2

The first page has a pocket and I used a Martha Stewart border punch on it.   There is also ribbon running under the sentiment.

1

The sentiment is a graphic I got from the Internet and cut out with a EK Success punch.  I made the leaves using a Cuttlebug die.  I found this video on making leaves and they were really easy to do.  She uses the Tim Holtz Tattered Leaves die for her leaves, but I found them to be too large for what I wanted.  The Cuttlebug die leaves were just the right size.  The leaf on the right has Crackle Accents on top of it and the leaf on the left has matte medium coating it.

1Verse

I made two tags to sit inside the pocket, using Distress Ink, stamping, heat embossing , and seam binding ribbon to create them.  The ribbon is colored with Lindy’s sprays.

1Tags

The pumpkin is from a Cuttlebug Cut and Emboss die, the sentiment is computer generated,  and there is another dragonfly from the Martha Stewart punch.  I kept the backs simple.

1TagsBack

Page 2 is an interactive page, folding up and closing with a small magnet.  I used Basic Grey magnetic snaps throughout the mini.   The Scrabble letters are from a Whimsy stamp (Spell It Out), heat embossed with Lindy’s embossing powder.  The sunflower is from a Heartfelt Creations stamp, colored with Copics and cut out.

2

This is page 2, partially open, revealing a tag inside.  The flowers are Recollection from Michaels, sprayed with Lindy’s Starburst Spray and topped with Stickles in the centers.  The pocket that holds the tag is a label shape from Spellbinders, cut in half.  The rectangle on the mat at the right is attached only at the bottom and right hand side to create a pocket to slip a photo in.

2Open1

I learned so much making this mini — like how to make tabs for tags using the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board.  I watched this video.

2Tag

I made the backs of all the tags the same — I created a little spot for journaling.  I used the Cricut cartridge Simply Charmed for the notebook paper, using colored pencils and a ruler to go over the score lines.

TagsBack

This is page 2, fully opened.  I created corners by cutting a square in half and embossing them with Darice’s Fall Leaf folder. The stamps I used throughout the album are either Close To My Heart, Inkadinkado, or from Michaels $1 bin.

2Open

Next up are pages 3 and 4.

3-4

The leaf is from a Spellbinders die and the sentiment is heat embossed.  The square the leaf is on is only glued at the bottom and left hand edge to the page — to create another pocket.  There is a mat that pulls out with a ribbon tab.

3

The mat is good sized.  This is the back, which I stamped with a Close To My Heart Stamp.  I used Memento Rich Cocoa Ink for the stamps that aren’t heat embossed.

3Mat2

Page 4 is another interactive page.   The title is from the Simply Scarecrows Cricut cartridge and sprayed with Lindy’s Starburst sprays.  The small leaves are from a Martha Stewart punch.  The ribbon opener features a brad from the BoBunny Forever Fall collection and closes with a magnet.

4

And here’s what it looks like open.

4Open

Now were moving on to pages 5 and 6.

5-6

Page 5 has a mat that pulls out of a pocket and folds over, forming the front.  It is held in place with a magnet.  I kept the front simple, adding a couple of leaves and another dragonfly.

5

This is page 5 open.  There is a tag inside.  The pumpkin on the mat is from the same Cuttlebug Cut and Emboss die that is on the tag in the pocket on page 1, with the leaf cut off.  It is attached only at the bottom and left side, so a photo can slip inside.

Two pictures of the mat, front and back.

5Mat2

Page 6 has a waterfall feature.   The BoBunny charm sits on two Spellbinders ovals.  The brad is also from the Forever Fall collection, using dyed seam binding to wrap around it as a closure.

6

Each layer of the waterfall has an embossed trim strip at the bottom and a pocket with a tag at the top.  This is the uppermost layer.

Here is the tag, partially pulled out.

This is a close-up of the brad.  I again used the Martha Stewart border punch for the leaf border.

This shows how the waterfall closes.  You will also notice two brads in the spine of my album.  Cathy’s binding tutorial shows how to add strength to your binding system by not only taping it to your spine, but by adding brads.

6Closed

We’re getting near the end.  Here are pages 7 and 8.

7-8

Page 7 has a pocket at the bottom.  The label is a Spellbinders die and the sentiment is heat embossed.  There is another pull out mat in the pocket on this page.

7Open

Page 8 features a mat that folds around to the front and is held in place with a magnet.  There is a pocket at the bottom and the curved oval shape (a Spellbinders die) is attached at the bottom to the pocket only.  The embossing is from the Cuttlebug Divine Swirls folder and is highlighted with gold metallic ink.  And there is one more of those little dragonflies on this page.

8

This picture again shows how wonderful Lindy’s Stamp Gang products are — look at all that sparkle.  I used more than one color on the dragonfly.

8Emboss

This is page 8 with the mat partially out.

8Open2

And we’re to the last of the pages, pages 9 and 10.

9-10

Page 9 is a fun interactive page.  It has a brad and seam binding closure.

9

The sentiment is attached at the lower and left edges only, forming a pocket.  The small leaves are the negative cuts from the Martha Stewart border punch, sprayed with Starburst Spray.

9Verse

Page 9 opens to reveal another tag.

The left side of the page then opens up to reveal two more spots for photos.

9Flap

Page 10 is the inside of the back cover.  It has a pocket at the right hand side with a folded photo mat tucked inside.

I again used some Recollection brand rhinestones on the pocket.

Jitterbuggin’ Gifts Galore Challenge and Fantabulous Cricut Ribbon Challenge

I haven’t been able to make many cards lately because this is my busy time of the year with the embroidery business.  I’ve had two machines running since Thanksgiving.  I’m taking a short break this weekend to go away with hubby to celebrate our 44th anniversay.  I wrapped up a couple of embroidery jobs on Tuesday and found time to make a card.

I made this card to enter into two challenges.  At Jitterbuggin, Sherri asked us to make a card with a gift theme.  The sketch is not mandatory this week — we just have to add a bow and some bling — and, of course, use our Cricut.

At Fantabulous Cricut we have to use ribbon somewhere on our project and, again, have a Cricut cut on it.

I made a card with a little mouse bearing a gift, which he wrapped up so prettily and tied with a bow.  The designer paper is Christmas Mint from SEI.  I used glitter cardstock from Core’dinations for my bling.  I am really happy with the way it cuts in the Cricut.

The little mouse is from the Winter Frolic Cricut cartridge.  The frame he is mounted on is from Lacy Labels Lite cartridge and I cut the tag from the Very Merry Tags cartridge.  The printing on the tag, “not a creature is stirring”, is a download I got from the Cutting Cafe.  I wanted something small and didn’t have time to try and put text on a circle myself, so I was happy to find the saying I wanted for a very reasonable price — just 99 cents.  The text on the inside of the card is also from this same download.  I cut out the text for the tag using my Cuttlebug and Nestabilities scalloped circles.

I cut the tag, the scarf, the bow on the present as well as mats from the glitter cardstock.  I found a piece of 1 1/2″ wide green satin ribbon in my stash and tied it around the middle of the card.  I attached the tag to the bow with a scrap of ribbon edged in metallic gold.

The inside of the card has another little mouse and I cut this one from the new Birthday Bash cartridge.  When I laid out my card in Design Studio, I planned on putting this mouse on the front of the card and the mouse with the gift on the inside of the card.  But once I started cutting out the pieces and laying out the actual card, I decided to switch mice.  I thought the mouse carrying the gift looked better on the front of the card.  Oh, I almost forgot — for both mice I used very small pom poms for their noses.
